Novokuibyshevskaya Petrochemical Company (a subsidiary of Rosneft's petrochemical complex) supported the popular science festival “Science Park” in Novokuibyshevsk. The educational project has been implemented by the enterprise for ten years and gives children the opportunity to gain knowledge through experimental research under the guidance of young scientists.
The guests of this year's festival were 400 schoolchildren, including those from the “Movement of Firsts”. Children were asked to find answers to the question “What can be made from oil?”. As part of the program, they learned about how hydrocarbon prospecting and exploration, oil production, and the creation of plastic products that surround us in our daily lives.
During the festival high school students got acquainted with the instruments and equipment of the laboratories of Samara State Technical University, where they also studied the properties of lubricating oils — the most important functional element of modern engines, machines and mechanisms.
In the modern petrochemical industry, breakthrough technologies are created at the intersection of different disciplines: mathematics, physics and computer science. Scientists of Samara Polytechnic and Novokuibyshevsk Petrochemical Company told how science helps to create efficient production and develop environmentally friendly technologies. During the workshops children were introduced to examples of modern scientific achievements — 3D technologies, electronics and robotics. The festival concluded with a spectacular chemistry show.
